Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support

A man and his little muddy dog reunited...I have been reading that they are doing everything to rescue animals. It breaks my heart to see this pic though.

A man holding a dog walks on a street in Kesennuma city after a tsunami devastated a swath of northeast Japan.

While there is no official news on the status of Cat Island (Tashiro Island), where hundreds of cats live among elderly humans, it is thought that the island was not swept away in the tsunami.

But Nohl Rosen posted in Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support — "I have a friend in Japan who reached others who knew about Tashirojima. People and cats are said to be okay, but the island sustained much building damage. They need bare necessities for humans and cat food.”

A coalition of three groups — HEART-Tokushima, Animal Garden Niigata, and Japan Cat Network — has united to provide shelter, rescue, and an exchange of information for animals of Japan’s earthquake and tsunami.

On this link, there are various emails & contact numbers. You can also donate money to help out rescued animals. They need volunteers.

Vegan prisoner Steve Murphy needs a little help

Steve Murphy has had an interesting past couple of months: His prison was on lockdown, the "authorities" refused to give him even the most basic of vegan foods, in protest of this treatment he went on hunger strike, and then after being starved with very little food for over an entire month, his prison is off lockdown and he’s eating again… sort of.

Steve Murphy is a dedicated vegan for environmental and animal cruelty reasons, imprisoned for his alleged involvement in an environmental action, and relies on support from the outside world to make his time inside bearable. The meager vegan diet he is given in prison must be supplemented with items purchased from the commissary in order to somewhat resemble a balanced and healthy diet.

This is where we all come in.

Could you please spare a small donation to help Steve through his time in prison? If we all could find it in us to give even $5.00 it would go a long way to helping Steve out with food and other necessities during these rough times.

Please help Steve out with a donation today http://bit.ly/gKp0lg

Thank you for your time and consideration. For more information on Steve, please visit his support site at www.supportsteve.org.

As always, Steve would also love for folks to write to him at the address below:

Help these strays in Romania

If you could please donate some food for hungry dogs....

All the streets in Romania are full of poor ...abandoned dogs needing help. Most tragic is the situation of the dogs abandoned near the cities or villages, in fields, who have no shelter and no food. They are too many to shelter them all…every day new dogs “appear from nowhere” begging for help. All we can do is try to offer them at least some food and to neuter them. As you can imagine…it is very difficult for us. First of all we must assure enough food for the dogs in our care and then we do our best to provide food for the ones “near” us so they will at least not die from hunger. Yes we know we cannot help them all but…if we can help a little…it means a lot for them and we will do it!

If anyone can help us also to provide food for the dogs who although are not in our direct care - due to lack of space - but who cannot survive without us providing them at least some daily food…it will be very much appreciate …they will at least go through another hard day with a stomach full.

Thank you so much for your support! A little goes a long way!

Sir Roger Moore's Latest Film

Sir Roger Moore has teamed up with PETA once again to produce his latest film outing – an exposá of the cruel treatment suffered by ducks and geese in the foie gras industry.

Why is Sir Roger crying fowl over foie gras? Ducks and geese who are raised for foie gras are abused in ways so cruel and grotesque that its production is banned in the UK and many other countries. Foie gras (French for "fatty liver") is produced by ramming pipes down the throats of ducks and geese and pumping vast quantities of grain mash directly into their tiny stomachs until their livers become painfully diseased and enlarged. In some cases, the animals' stomachs split open, and the birds painfully bleed to death.

Those who survive this terrible treatment are later killed, and their diseased livers – swelled to up to 10 times their normal size – are sold as foie gras. Even though foie gras has been deemed too cruel for production in the UK, it is still legal to sell it here.

Investigations into foie gras farms in Europe and the US have all revealed the same thing: sick, dying or dead animals – some with serious injuries from having the force-feeding pipe rammed so violently down their throat that it ripped a hole in their neck. An Animal Protection and Rescue League investigation found that ducks on one foie gras farm had bloody beaks, and their wings were twisted together.

PETA is pushing forward in our campaign to end the misery of ducks and geese who suffer so greatly for this "torture in a tin". Although we are achieving victories, millions of birds are still crammed into tiny pens or cages, suffering the horror of being force-fed via a tube shoved down their gullets several times a day. To help us help them and other animals who are suffering, please make a donation today.

Frasier & Spruce have Parvo virus

We need some help. These 2 boys were rescued & they are very much attached to each other. These two male GP/St. Bernard mix 6 week old male puppies are Frasier and Spruce.

Volunteer Diane was planning to foster and her vet just called to report that they tested positive for Parvo. He said we had two options. Put them down or try to save them. He offered a 50% discount which will be $600-$800.

We are going to save these little boys and anything you can do - even $5 or $10 will help. Please donate at www.greatpyratlanta.com
