Sign the Pledge to Be Fur-Free

Consumers everywhere need to know the truth about fur. When people learn that millions of innocent animals are beaten, boiled, hanged, and electrocuted for their fur every year; that each fur coat, each piece of fur lining or fur trim, and each fur cat toy represents the intense suffering of dozens of animals; and that furriers intentionally mislabel the fur of cats and dogs as fur from other species or as faux fur—then every decent human being will want to go fur-free.

Full Petition Text:

I, the undersigned, hereby pledge to go fur-free. I say ''No!'' to the cruel and barbaric slaughter of millions of animals around the world for their skin. I say ''No!'' to fur coats, fur collars, fur trim, fur trinkets, fur cat toys, and other products made from the fur of animals as well as to any attempt to sneak fur into everyday items. I pledge to expose the truth about fur and spread the word until we close down the international fur trade forever.

Patrick’s story

Patrick, the Pit bull who was found near death by a maintenance worker after his owner tossed him into the laundry chute of a 22 story apartment building is continuing to recover each day.

Although Patrick is still pathetically thin, the staff at Garden State Veterinary Specialists says he is slowly progressing. He is eating more food and is now gets to lie on a shamrock blanket outside his cage.

In the last couple of days, he has received a second blood transfusion to help him. The foreign body found through an ultrasound at the beginning of the week doesn't seem to be hurting his recovery so veterinarians will address removing the object when Patrick gets a little stronger.

Patrick sniffs and greets everyone that comes to meet him and there have been lots of well-wishers. There have been TV crews from all over the area recording his progress.

Associated Humane Societies of New Jersey is paying for the dog's recovery. Associated Humane Societies is offering a $2,500 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of Patrick's abuser(s).

Cool Babysitters

London, Fenwick & Haku have been looking after the 6 kittens of Sunshine. These kittens must be now 5 months old.

Time & again, animals have shown they can look after anyone’s baby. There are zillions of examples. Anyway, they all look very cute.

There are some more pics…

How animals are being rescued with so much passion in Japan

I have been reading several stories of how animals have been rescued in Japan. Everything points only in 1 direction – Japanese are not just hard working people, they also care about animals.

However, situation is bad for animals in Sendai. They are preparing a team to go there with food & supplies. There have been rumors that animals will be euthanized in several areas but it’s far from truth. They have confirmed that no animal will be euthanized. Moreover, they are also trying to create temporary shelters at Animal Friends Niigata to house animals besides trying to reunite lost pets with their owners.

Japan is a nation of pet lovers. Most families have a dog or cat, birds, a rabbit, or other pets in their apartments. At first people had no news about Cat Island which but people & cats of the island have been rescued but need help & food. The small island in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, is also home to many cats & old people. A shrine also exists there which is dedicated to cats.

They also encountered a woman who refused to evacuate as the officials wouldn’t allow her to take her dog Yosuke with her. She didn’t leave Yosuke behind & stayed with the dog in her shaking house for 3 days & the good news is that both of them are okay.

Many people have seen the video of a dog wouldn’t leave his injured friend in the rubbles. Both of them are safe now.

A woman went back to her house to search for her cat. The house was entirely destroyed but thank God, her cat Non-non survived as she was upstairs. The cat was a bit shaken but it’s good to know that Non-non too is safe now with her owner. Another man was reunited with his injured pet dog & that pic can make you cry. I hardly see that kind of compassion for humans here & these people even love their animals like mad.

I’m really proud of Japan & it’s people. I think Japan has set an example for the rest of the world which keeps blabbing when hit by disasters. Japanese are not just fighting with this natural disaster with honor, but they have proud they are one of the most compassionate nations. We sign zillions of petitions in which healthy animals in pretty okay places are being killed & tortured for no reason. I wonder what would they do if some natural calamity hits them. I don’t think such inhuman people can learn anything from Japan but I can’t help ignoring their evil deeds at the moment.

I have a Japanese friend & she has been telling us what’s going on in Japan every day. Places have been completely wiped off. You can’t call any place safe but these people haven’t given up & they are fighting.

Please continue to pray for them. Disasters could happen to anyone.

Japan's 'Cat Island' Survived Quake

Tashirojima, otherwise known as Japan's "Cat Island" due to its numerous feline inhabitants, is intact after the recent devastating 9-magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami, according to Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support. However, like so many others devastated by the disaster, both the human and feline residents of the island need help.

The small island in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, is home to at least 100, mostly elderly, people and many more cats, which are valued for their beauty, companionship, and ability to keep the rodent population down in this fishing area. A shrine dedicated to cats exists in the middle of the island -- a favorite of tourists and feline lovers worldwide.

There was concern that the island and its residents did not survive the earthquake, aftershocks, and tsunami, but Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support posted this at Facebook:

“Just to give everyone an update on Tashirojima, the cat island. The people and cats are safe but short of food. A volunteer looked into transporting food by boat, but there is too much debris in the water. A helicopter is the only way. The army will probably get a helicopter ready soon so we are looking into the possibility of asking them to take cat food too.”

Teaming up with another organization, Animal Friends Niigata, workers with the Japanese rescue and support team are now in Sendai, near where the earthquake was centered.

They reported encountering at least one woman, you could see in the pic who refused to evacuate because officials would not let her bring her dog, Yosuke, with her. She stayed with Yosuke in her shaking house for three days, but thankfully both are OK. She was very relieved to encounter the rescuers.

Denver – the guilty dog

Denver - shutting his eyes & scrunching up his nose
He looks so guilty in this pic :P
Here Denver is not even looking directly at his owner
This is Macy & in both the pics, she looks relaxed & innocent.

Well this is actually a very cute story about 2 dogs – Denver & Macy. One of them ate Party Mix (cat food). When the owner interrogated both Macy & Denver as they were sitting meters away from the scene of crime, Macy seemed relaxed whereas Denver shut his eyes & scrunched up his nose. In fact, he made it clear that he very much enjoyed that treat.

Macy, sitting less than a couple of yards away from where the bag was found on the carpet, appears very relaxed, and has next to no reaction when her owner questions her.Her big eyes widen, she looks innocent and her owner conceded: 'I don't think it was you.'

When his owner ventures over to the Golden Labrador, his tail continues to wag, and a smile curls across his lips - the smile, perhaps, of someone who has very much enjoyed doing something they were not supposed to do. When the man interrogates Denver he fidgets uncomfortably and buries his head below the gaze of the camera, as though bracing himself for a telling off.The empty bag is then waved in front of the dog's nose and his owner asks Denver whether or not he has eaten the cat snacks. In an admission of guilt Denver will not look his owner - or the camera - in the eye. 'It was you,' exclaims the disappointed man, at which point he ducks the camera in an effort to catch the dog's reaction. Denver squirms more, but now reveals his teeth, and tensed up nose - it is as though he is crying, sad and disappointed in his own actions.

The world’s most expensive dog

The world's most expensive dog showed he was just as friendly as the average, run-of-the-mill mutt as he met his new master.

The red Tibetan Mastiff, who was sold for 10million Chinese yuan, or £945,000, happily wagged his tail as he was handed over to his coal baron owner at a private breeding base in Qingdao city, in east China's Shandong province.

Mr Yang will need a big house too, as adult Tibetan Mastiffs have been known to weigh as much as 290lb, or more than 20 stone – the same as a sizeable rugby player. However the typical weight for a fully grown Tibetan Mastiff is around 13 stone.

The high price paid for the dog is a sign that the red Tibetan mastiff has become a status symbol in China, replacing jewellery and cars as a way for the super-rich to show off their wealth.

Not only is red considered a lucky colour, but Tibetan mastiffs are thought to be holy animals, blessing their owners' health and security.

Tibetans believe the dogs have the souls of monks and nuns who were not good enough to be reincarnated as humans or into Shambhala, the heavenly realm.

These days there are only around 300 Tibetan mastiffs in the UK, and puppies sell for a more reasonable £850 to £1,000.

Stop the Deadly Den Hunts!

Cruel den hunts in Russia are leaving poor bear cubs orphaned and defenseless. Hunters allure mothers out of their dens using dogs, and then shoot them and sell their bodies for human consumption. Not only is this unfair killing highly inhumane to the mothers, it also renders their cubs motherless and unable to fend for or protect themselves. Most of these cubs don't make it through the winter.

We must take action to ensure these baby bears are given the best possible chance of survival. Please sign the petition below asking Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to put a stop to this deadly hunt.

'Impure' dalmatian angers traditionalists at the elite pedigree dog show

Fiona, a three-year-old is descended from a Dalmatian & a pointer. She is competing to take the title as best in her breed this week. But there is resentment because she is a crossbreed. Many believe she is impure as she has brown spots. I think it’s really ridiculous & they are all such breed conscious idiots.

Paul Heaton, a dalmatian breeder said: ‘It is pretty unethical to allow this dog in a pedigree show. As far as I’m concerned it is an illegal entrant and makes a mockery of the dalmatian breed.’

‘This is a dog that is not pure-bred. This is a mongrel. You can’t cross a dalmatian with a pointer and say it’s a dalmatian. This is unethical and I’d be disgusted if the dog won’ said Anne Harcraft - another breeder.

They all believe she shouldn’t be shown with pedigrees. Even in this century, people just go on discriminating. They neither leave animals nor humans.

The good news is…Fiona carries a gene from the Pointer which protects her from a life-threatening condition. I think this is one remarkable quality but they don’t want anyone to taint the breed. It’s okay if the animal falls sick & dies. They are happy with a sick dog but they can’t stand the idea of a healthy cross breed.

Anyhow, The Kennel Club has allowed Fiona to be registered as a pedigree, because she can bring health benefits to future generations. She has won a couple of regional competitions & she’s very active.

Mrs Evans said: ‘My efforts have been unpopular. Breeders and clubs don’t want impure dogs and they see this genetic modification as interfering with the breed. It is interfering, but it is to introduce a healthy gene. I hope one day I can persuade them it is the right thing to do.’

I think introducing a healthy gene is far better than having sick dogs, but we have innumerable breed conscious folks who are just too stuck up to think about the health of a dog. They have more complexes about what is pure & what is impure. It’s ironic that they are ones talking about ethics. In this case, genetic modification will help dogs in the long run. I’m glad they have allowed Fiona to participate in spite of so much resentment on the part of breed conscious idiots.

Dogs Being Run To Death!

The Iditarod is a long, grueling race that has become known for its abuse of animals, causing hundreds of injuries and deaths.  Dogs' paws become bruised and bloodied and are cut by the ice. Many dogs incur stress fractures or become sick with intestinal viruses.

Dogs often die in the 1,150-plus-mile race from hypothermia, pneumonia, gastric ulcers, accidents, beatings, and "sled dog myopathy"—literally being run to death. Twenty dogs used in the Iditarod have died since 2005. On average, more than half the dogs who start the race don't make it across the finish line, and 81 percent of those who do finish have lung damage, according to a report published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine

Many compassionate companies have pulled their sponsorships of the Iditarod, including, just this week, the Transportation Security Administration after hearing from PETA. With the Iditarod starting on March 5, we need your help NOW to urge the remaining sponsors to end their support of this cruel event.

Please take a moment to send a single e-mail to the executives of the companies that are still sponsoring the Iditarod. Ask them to cancel their sponsorship of this event, which results in injured, and often dead, dogs.

Stop the Skinning of Live Animals NOW!!

The video is very difficult to watch but you need to watch it so click the link below to view the video and sign the petition. What is happening to dogs and cats overseas is far worse than anything I've seen. It's disgusting, inhumane and emotionally distressing. THIS MUST STOP NOW!!!! There is almost 150,000 signatures already and we can't stop there.

Go to http://www.ptroa.co.il/petitionmovie/petition-English.php sorry, you may have to copy and paste the link.

Tens of millions of animals are slaughtered and butchered in China each year. Animal fur is in high demand, and the Chinese deliver. What does not get exported outside of China usually ends up on a dinner plate. The sad fact is that the animals suffer horrendous torture. They are captured on the streets, and packed by the dozens into small cages, without ability to move. They are then tossed like inanimate objects from the trucks, onto the ground, hitting each other and the steel cages. These cages are later stacked, and the real nightmare begins. The animal is brutally pulled out of the cage, and tied to prevent resistance. It is lightly stunned by a blow on the head, but still alive. If the animal is not heavy, the worker holds it by its hind legs, waves it in the air and then bashes its head against the ground. Once the animal is subdued, a new and incomprehensible stage in this ongoing nightmare begins. The worker cuts a tiny incision in the animal's rear, and then methodically peels away the skin. This skinning process takes about a minute, during which the worker actively keeps the animal alive, as it is believed that it is easier to skin the animal while it is still warm and blood flows through its veins. The nightmare does not end here. The final stage in this unbelievable horror is when the animal is tossed aside, and slowly, amidst a heap of its dying friends, it perishes as it is no longer able to withstand the pain. In other cases, when the animal's fur is not needed (mostly with cats), the animals are put in a sack, and are then cooked alive in a barrel of boiling water.

This process is extremely hard to digest, but we believe it is not propelled by cruelty, but rather by ignorance and lack of awareness to animal needs. The workers do not think to kill the animal before they begin, and are not aware of the animal's suffering. Our commitment is to provide enlightenment. It is our moral obligation to these animals. If we shut our eyes this will not go away!

Dog risks his own life to protect his dying friend

We have heard too many stories about the loyalty of dogs but this one is heart wrenching.

A dog was being knocked down by the car on one of the busy roads in China but his companion risked his own life. He didn’t leave his friend even though it must have been really scary for him to protect his dead buddy on the road.

Well nothing else is known about the loyal pooch but he wasn’t been hit by any car. Eventually the dead dog was taken off the road.

I’ve seen that animals actually make us, humans, speechless. They go beyond the boundaries. They don’t care about their own safety when they are being loyal to someone. But we live in a world where they are all the time targeting these innocent beings. Instead of learning anything from them, humans prefer to stay evil.

Stop the Shooting of 10,000 Dogs in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

Officials in the capital of Kyrgyzstan say that due to budget constraints, they are being forced into killing an estimated 10,000 dogs, rather than build shelters for them.

A spokesperson said that the dogs are being killed in the early morning and in the evening by a team of 10 shooters and dog catchers.

Please let President Roza Otunbayeva, president of Kyrgyzstan know that this action of shooting 10,000 dogs is barbaric and there are other ways to prevent the massive killings. There are many programs; spay neuter programs and building shelters for the dogs.
