Vogue Magazine: Stop Promoting The Cruel Fur Industry

Vogue magazine continues to promote fur in fashion, despite the fact that they are otherwise interested in helping readers lead a more environmentally friendly life. In the past few years, the magazine has featured vegan shoes and highlighted a vegan diet. Why not extend that compassion to animals raised for fur?

Vogue's editor, Anna Wintour, has said in the past that Vogue will continue to feature fur as long as it remains in fashion. Vogue has been hailed by The New York Times as "the world's most influential fashion magazine." Vogue should start trends, not follow them.

If Vogue took fur off their pages, they could save the lives of thousands of animals. Each year, over 31 million animals are killed on fur farms. The animals raised for fur spend their entire lives in tiny wire cages before they are gassed, electrocuted, poisoned, or strangled.

Sign the petition to tell Vogue magazine to stop promoting fur.

Tell Donna Karen To Stop Using Rabbit Fur

Dead rabbits in fur factory

Donna Karan continues to use rabbit fur in her clothing designs, despite a 2008 promise to discontinue the use of fur.

Rabbits killed for their fur are raised in horrific conditions on fur farms, or caught in the wild in painful traps. Rabbits raised on fur factory farms spend their entire lives in tiny wire cages before they are gassed, electrocuted, poisoned, or strangled.

Many other top clothing designers refuse to support the cruelty inherent in the fur industry. Fur-free designers include: Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger. There is no reason why Donna Karan needs to continue to design using rabbit fur.

Russia Has Lift The Ban On Polar Bear Hunting

This is some really disturbing news. I can not believe governments are actually legalizing inhumane treatment of animals so openly. The most recent development is that Russia has legalized the hunting of polar bears for the first time in more than half a century.

That is terrible news for the endangered polar bears. Already their numbers are shrinking. 2000 polar bears live in this area. Ten years ago there were 5000 of them. Overall, some 20,000-25000 polar bears are alive globally. These numbers are hardly impressive enough. We have already done lots of damage.

Yet, the Russian governor from Chukotka - Roman Kopin has signed a decree that allows the area's people to kill 29 polar bears each year. I mean what the hell is all this? Is this some sort of a crazy competition?

The authorities are defending their decision by saying that hunting polar bears for their meat and fur has always been a tradition in the Chukchi culture in the Russian Arctic. They said hunters will not be allowed to export bear skins or sell their meat commercially. As if this is going to bring the dead animals back!

The critics are shouting out loud against this move because the habitat of polar bears are shrinking and there is already enough poaching going on around. It is such ruthless decisions that are disturbing the socio-ecological environment immensely.

This is absolutely insane. These people are ruling the world and just look at the inhuman stuff they are carrying out. Shame on these guys! I don't know how do they sleep well after doing such unkind things!

Tens of millions of animals are slaughtered and butchered in China each year. Animal fur is in high demand, and the Chinese deliver. What does not get exported outside of China usually ends up on a dinner plate. The sad fact is that the animals suffer horrendous torture. They are captured on the streets, and packed by the dozens into small cages, without ability to move. They are then tossed like inanimate objects from the trucks, onto the ground, hitting each other and the steel cages. These cages are later stacked, and the real nightmare begins. The animal is brutally pulled out of the cage, and tied to prevent resistance. It is lightly stunned by a blow on the head, but still alive. If the animal is not heavy, the worker holds it by its hind legs, waves it in the air and then bashes its head against the ground. Once the animal is subdued, a new and incomprehensible stage in this ongoing nightmare begins. The worker cuts a tiny incision in the animal's rear, and then methodically peels away the skin. This skinning process takes about a minute, during which the worker actively keeps the animal alive, as it is believed that it is easier to skin the animal while it is still warm and blood flows through its veins. The nightmare does not end here. The final stage in this unbelievable horror is when the animal is tossed aside, and slowly, amidst a heap of its dying friends, it perishes as it is no longer able to withstand the pain. In other cases, when the animal's fur is not needed (mostly with cats), the animals are put in a sack, and are then cooked alive in a barrel of boiling water.

This process is extremely hard to digest, but we believe it is not propelled by cruelty, but rather by ignorance and lack of awareness to animal needs. The workers do not think to kill the animal before they begin, and are not aware of the animal's suffering. Our commitment is to provide enlightenment. It is our moral obligation to these animals. If we shut our eyes this will not go away!
