Patrick’s story

Patrick, the Pit bull who was found near death by a maintenance worker after his owner tossed him into the laundry chute of a 22 story apartment building is continuing to recover each day.

Although Patrick is still pathetically thin, the staff at Garden State Veterinary Specialists says he is slowly progressing. He is eating more food and is now gets to lie on a shamrock blanket outside his cage.

In the last couple of days, he has received a second blood transfusion to help him. The foreign body found through an ultrasound at the beginning of the week doesn't seem to be hurting his recovery so veterinarians will address removing the object when Patrick gets a little stronger.

Patrick sniffs and greets everyone that comes to meet him and there have been lots of well-wishers. There have been TV crews from all over the area recording his progress.

Associated Humane Societies of New Jersey is paying for the dog's recovery. Associated Humane Societies is offering a $2,500 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of Patrick's abuser(s).

Jury Failed To Convict Baltimore Teens

This is quite a sad news here that has shocked most people in Maryland. Two teenage brothers - Travers and Tremayne (19 yrs now) were involved in brutally burning a young pit bull on the streets of Baltimore in May 2009. The dog did survive initially but she was in utter pain and had to be humanely euthanized by the rescue workers.

The sad part is that because of one juror, the jury could not pass the unanimous verdict against the insane brothers who committed this cruel animal crime. Thus it is a mis-trial. It has been said that the 11 other jurors were in favor of convicting the Johnson brothers.

The Baltimore City State Attorney is planning to retry the case against the two brothers.I think this was definitely a mis trial and it would be best if justice is given. The boys were old enough when they committed this cruel crime. They did it for fun and such fun is absolutely insane.

Ohio Legislators: Pass H.B. 14 to End Breed Discrimination

Ohio is the only place in the U.S. with statewide discrimination against dogs. If you live in Ohio and have a pit bull -- or any muscular, short-haired dog who could be mistaken for a pit bull -- your dog is automatically considered vicious.

Last year, a bill was introduced that would remove pit bulls from the state's definition of vicious dogs. The bill passed the House of Representatives, but was never called to vote in the Senate.

To start off this year's legislative session, Rep. Barbara Sears (R-Lucas County) reintroduced legislation (H.B. 14) that would end Ohio's breed discrimination.

Join advocates around the country in urging the state legislature to make it a priority to pass H.B. 14 to end breed discrimination in Ohio.

You must live in the U.S. to sign this.
