Older Elephants Are Great Leaders

We have heard so much about the bravery of the lioness' who are great hunters. They find food for themselves and their packs and possess great hunting skills. However, in a similar manner female elephants are said to have some extra ordinary skills as well when we talk about the bigger animals.

It has been discovered according to the Zoologists working in Amboseli National Park in southern Kenya that younger elephants often under react in situations when they have to be be on their guard. At times when they hear the lion's roar that is extremely dangerous, they still don't pay heed.

However, groups of elephants that are led by older elephants both males and females are likely do much better at protecting themselves. The older elephants have the experience that helps them to identify the level of danger and potential threat around them when they hear the lion's roar.

What We Should Learn From Animals

Believe it or not, now the only good surprises that I see come from something that an animal does. Humans are actually losing their credibility as far as doing good stuff is concerned. Here are some very nice animal stories from which we humans can learn the basics of tolerance and love.

Mi-Lu was born in captivity, which is great for him as he is part of the rare species (Pere David Deer) that are now getting extinct. Sadly, his mother abandoned him because she gave birth to two baby deer. Experts say, that twin deer births are rare and the mother didn't know how to care for two babies so Mi-Lu was left alone. But, Mi-Lu found immense amount of love and great friends in the form of the two resident dogs - Kipper and Geoffery. They helped him to grow up, walk and get confident before he was put back in the herd.

This hippo and tortoise story is the cutest one I came across. Owen is the baby hippo who was rescued during the 2004 tsunami in Indian Ocean. Owen was brought to a sanctuary in Kenya but he got so scared the moment he came into the sanctuary that he ran and hid behind Mzee (a 130 year old) tortoise. Owen just acted as if he would hide behind his mother. But since that day, Owen and Mzee are the best friends who walk and feed together.
