Help Outlaw Bestiality in Florida

Bestiality is still legal n Florida. Numerous states -- including Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Alaska, South Dakota, and Washington -- have passed laws prohibiting this exploitive and abusive practice.

Florida SB 344/HB 125, filed by Senator Nan Rich and Rep. Marty Kiar, would outlaw sexual conduct or sexual contact with animals. Anyone violating this law would be guilty of a misdemeanor.

Please sign the petition and ask Florida state legislators to outlaw bestiality.

Florida: Prevent Animal Suffering, Support Spay/Neuter Funding!

Pet overpopulation causes needless animal pain and suffering. Homeless animals are forced to live in fear and scrounge for food and water, do not receive medical care, and almost always lead short, difficult lives. Part of the solution to this problem is to increase spay and neuter efforts statewide.

Now pending in the Florida General Assembly, Senate Bill 2372 and House Bill 1221 would increase financial assistance to county spay/neuter efforts without raising taxes. The bills propose a $10 increase to the $5 surcharge imposed on those who violate local animal control ordinances. This money will be dedicated to funding municipal spay/neuter efforts. Sign the petition supporting this critical legislation!

Ban Greyhound racing in 2011

The "sport" of dog racing is cruel, costly and collapsing all around the United States. Recognizing that the dog racing industry is fundamentally incapable of treating its Greyhounds humanely, many states have already banned this exploitative form of entertainment. In fact, Florida is one of only seven states in which dog racing still exists.

The suffering of the dogs far outweighs any entertainment or financial benefit to the state: racing Greyhounds generally are confined to cages when not competing and injuries such as broken legs and paralysis are commonplace.

The Florida Legislature has a history of passing economic measures aimed at propping up the failing Greyhound racing industry. It is high time for your elected officials to take a hard look at dog racing and take steps to rid Florida of it entirely.
