No More Titanium Mines In Cardamom Mountains of Cambodia

Environmentalists and animal welfare groups are more than happy to hear this great news that the Cambodian government has reversed its orders for the construction of a huge titanium mine in the middle of Southwest Elephant Corridor in the Cardamom Mountain rainforest in Cambodia.

I am happy that we mentioned this petition several times so that the Cardamom Mountain rainforests of Cambodia are protected. The area is home to more than 100 endangered Asian elephants and many other endangered species.

Prime Minister Hun Sen reversed his February agreement with the United Khmer mining group and has denied permission to continue with the titanium mine because of the concerns of the its impact on the environment, biodiversity and local livelihoods.

Such positive announcements show that every signed petition does make a difference and one must not give up because only firm conviction may lead to success and the protection of animals who cannot fight against the cruel world themselves. Some 90,000 signatures were signed for this particular cause by Care2 members alone and we can see that it did put pressure on the Cambodian government to reverse its orders.

Congrats The Cambodian Elephants Are Safe Now

Remember that planned titanium mine in Cambodia that would cut through a critical elephant corridor? In a stunning reversal, the Cambodian government revoked permission for the mine, a big win for the elephants and the people who live in the Cardamom Mountains rainforest.

More than 90,000 Care2 members alone signed up the petitions against this mine.he sun bears, Siamese crocodiles and especially the 100 endangered Asian elephants who call the Cardamoms home are a bit safe

The people who live in the rainforest and depend on its pristine beauty for a booming ecotourism industry are equally happy.

Many congratulations to each one of us who stood up for this cause. Like I always say, each signed petition makes a huge difference. It increases the pressure on governing bodies and results in such positive decisions.

Forever Wild Exotic Animal Sanctuary

Forever Wild Exotic Animal Sanctuary is run by Joel and Chemaine Almquist in Phelan, CA. This couple started this task many years ago when they started keeping wild cats in the backyard and took care of them. Later on they ended up with this wonderful sanctuary.

At this Sanctuary there are no adoptions. The big cats have found a home forever. Some come from the entertainment industry, some came because their owners no longer could afford to keep a big wild cat and some have been rescued from abusive situations.

Of the cat family, the couple looks after servals, lynxes, bobcats, tigers, mountain lions, black leopards and one regal African lioness. They have 26 wild cats in their sanctuary.

It's always nice to see people who go out of the way to take care of animals like this couple. With these efforts they have helped many big cats who were in danger of being put down as well. People can support this couple by contributing for the animals and can visit this sanctuary themselves also.

Protect Endangered Elephants in the Cardamom Mountain Rainforest

More than 100 endangered Asian elephants -- the largest population in Cambodia -- depend on the elephant corridor in the Cardamom Mountain rainforest. 

But the elephants could lose this critical habitat if Cambodia approves a permit for a new titanium mine in a meeting this Friday!(11th Feb) We have to tell the Combodian Minister of Commerce to protect the country's wildlife. 

It's not just elephants: The Cardamoms are home to sun bears, Siamese crocodiles and more than half of Cambodia's bird population. Moreover, the Cardamom Mountains are one of the last intact rainforests in Southeast Asia. It is a model for conservation and have a burgeoning eco-tourism industry that helps locals make a living without destroying the land.
