I am very glad to inform the good news on Anne the circus elephant. Last week, I shared a petition here about Anne, the 57 year old UK circus elephant who got attention when a shocking video was shared showing how her caretaker was beating her.
Today, I have a good news that Anne will now spend the rest of her life at a wildlife sanctuary. It was heart breaking to see the old and arthritic Asian elephant being beaten by her caretaker at the Bobby Roberts Super Circus where she served for more than 50 years. Yet, it was shocking to see how her caretaker hit her some 48 times against which the world stood up and signed up petitions miraculously leading to this good change in Anne's life finally.
Anne will move to her new home by this week and will have three experienced elephant keepers and an elephant specialist take care of. She will live with a herd of rhinos in a large purpose built enclosure that earlier had five elephants but Anne will have a separate area all for herself. Besides, Anne who is also Europe's oldest elephant will have an 80 acre enclosure with paddocks, meadows and water pools for her leisure if her arthritis allowed her to enjoy all that.
I think Anne was a very hard working and innocent animal who worked for selfish people all her life and then she was cruelly treated by a maddening caretaker. Thankfully, the world saw her footage and action was taken to give her some happiness in this old age.
Moira Roberts, who owns the circus with her husband Bobby said they loved Anne like a child but they are guilty of hiring Nicolae Nitu who was seen beating Anne brutally. She said, that they tried rehousing Anne for the past two years but didn't get any help but people feel this is typical behavior by such people come under criticism. Ultimately, as the pressure increased the Roberts had to allow her to relocate to Longleat.
I don't really believe what the Roberts are saying either because they were reckless and irresponsible. They used an elephant for 50 years and they didn't have the heart to make sure she enjoys a healthy and happy life in all these years. Anne was simply a source of making money for these circus people. They hired a mad man who bear her further in this old age. These are not signs of good and kind keepers.
Thank God, Anne will now get out of this shit hole and live peacefully for the rest of her life.
