Terrible news from Karachi Zoological Gardens once again. One ostrich, one crocodile and one fallow deer have died in the past 10 days.
No official reports on the death of these animals is available so far. However, according to sources, the ostrich died after eating a plastic bag and the female crocodile was killed in a fight perhaps. Two other crocodiles were also injured in a fight. The cause of death for the fallow deer is not known.
Last month, an entire herd of mouflons died of an unknown disease. I remember writing about them too.
I think this is absolutely sad that nobody is doing anything about the dying animals although it is quite obvious that the Karachi Zoo is not functioning properly. It is not the right or responsible place to keep animals nor does it have the resources to take care of them. I hardly see the recreational purpose of such a zoo. One day all we will be left with will be empty cages.
