On Feb 22nd 2011, the ASPCA field investigation team rescued 349 living dogs and 76 dead dogs from One More Chance Rescue and Adoption Center near Springfield, Ohio. Quite ironic to see its name because this was a sanctuary and animal shelter that failed miserably in its operations.
The dogs rescued from this sanctuary are not in a good condition. They have various illnesses. They were found in hog barns and in stacked crates. They were forced to live in their own waste along with rats and other vermin. It was over crowded and not properly ventilated. All in all, a deplorable condition for the animals to survive.
The dogs were removed by the ASPCA team in just one and are now in an emergency center in Franklin County where they are being treated by vets from various groups and Ohio State University.
One More Chance was being run by Jeff Burgess who is 56 years old. He also ran another animal shelter in Piqua Ohio where 100s of animals were rescued earlier. Charges of animal cruelty are filed against Burgess for his continued lack of irresponsible behavior towards animals in the name of running animal shelters.
It was one of worst cases of animal cruelty where Jeff wanted to save the animals from dying of euthanasia but had no resources to keep the animals in a healthy and happy environment. As a result, the dogs suffered badly for a long time before an action was taken against Jeff Burgess.
